CHOMP Kitchen Terrace
CHOMP Kitchen Terrace
Warren, RI
A new restaurant located on the town wharf presented a unique opportunity to connect to the vibrant fabric of public realm and streetscape in a vibrant waterside historic district in Warren, RI. Design Outside was tasked with extending the dining space into the landscape with two inviting and comfortable outdoor spaces, a beer and burger garden to the south, and covered terrace that faces the Warren River to the west. At the beer garden, a grid of Honeylocusts emerge from an elevated terrace of bluestone and brick that provides patrons with a rich and vibrant groundplane that recalls the layered and time worn paving from seaside villages of New England. Reclaimed granite bridge block is used as a retaining wall that runs along the seashell sidewalks of the town wharf and grounds the garden and terrace. A mix of native shrubs and grasses enclose the gathering spaces creating distinct outdoor rooms for patrons to gather and enjoy al fresco dining.
