Tim is a designer and builder who is inspired by the craft and process of turning thoughtful ideas into beautifully constructed, ecologically vital landscapes. With over two decades of experience, he blends creativity with technical know-how to design outdoor spaces that are intentional, inviting, and lasting.
He believes that landscapes are where some of life’s most meaningful and potent memories are made: quiet morning routines, children’s laughter echoing through a garden, dinners that stretch into the evening under a rising moon. Tim’s work is rooted in the idea that great design supports these moments. Well designed landscapes bring calm, connection, and joy to everyday life.
His approach is thoughtful and collaborative, combining careful planning with a concentration on plan, detail, material, and form. He works collaboratively with clients to create landscapes that reflect their lifestyle and values, while ensuring each element comes together in a seamless, cohesive whole.
Tim has worked across a wide range of project types—from small garden installations, to public projects, to large-scale residential properties, most recently focusing on complex, high-end homes throughout coastal New England. Clients value his ability to balance vision and execution, guiding projects from concept through construction with clarity, pragmatism and care.
He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island. Tim is a licensed and CLARB-certified landscape architect registered to practice in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Vermont.

Dennis is passionate about crafting meaningful experiences through landscape design and construction.
He finds joy in working closely with clients to create outdoor spaces that reinforce their connection to home, nature, and outdoor living. A hands-on leader, Dennis is equally engaged in the design studio with his colleagues and on-site with skilled craftspeople, ensuring each garden and outdoor space is thoughtfully executed.
Dennis’ passion for the outdoors stems from his experiences exploring the varied landscapes of Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. After working in the field at his father’s landscape construction company, Dennis pursued the field of landscape architecture to strengthen his connection between design thinking, horticulture, and the built environment.
Dennis earned his Master of Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he was honored with the Dan Tuttle Endowed Scholarship Award for Design Excellence. He has contributed to academia as a faculty member, teaching Foundation Design and Capstone Studios in the Landscape Architecture Department at the University of Rhode Island. Additionally, he has served as a Specialty Thesis Advisor in the Interior Architecture Department and as a Visiting Critic in the Landscape Architecture Department at RISD.
Before founding Design Outside, Dennis held senior design roles at several award-winning firms, including Leblanc Jones Landscape Architects, TL Studio. He is a registered landscape architect in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Meet Our Team
Evan Davenport is a Landscape Architect and Project Manager at Design Outside with a background that combines civil engineering, architecture, and landscape architecture. He enjoys the challenge of negotiating dynamic systems within contemporary landscape architectural practice. His interdisciplinary approach engages a site’s physical, natural, social, and historical contexts to draw relationships between its often opposing forces. He believes in the power of design to find creative ways in which ecological health and societal needs can benefit mutually and create resilient communities.
Evan holds a BS in Civil Engineering and Architectural Studies from the University of New Hampshire and an MLA I from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has lived in, worked on, and studied landscapes across MA, RI, and NH.

Ashley is drawn to landscape architecture as a field that is uniquely positioned to both address environmental concerns and improve the health and well-being of people. She is excited about the potential for design to facilitate connections to nature by making environmental processes more visible, providing a diversity of access points and experiences in the landscape, and encouraging people to take notice and appreciate their surroundings. Deeply committed to sustainability, Ashley is also interested in creative design strategies that thoughtfully consider the social and environmental implications of landscape interventions.
She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she was honored with the RI ASLA Honor Award. Ashley also earned a B.A in Environmental Studies and worked for a decade as an environmental educator before pursuing a career in Landscape Architecture.
As the former Director of Environmental Education at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, Ashley developed a love for plants and expertise in creating educational programs that foster environmental stewardship. This experience informs her approach to designing landscapes that engage people and inspire a deeper connection to their environment.

With over 40 years of hands-on and management experience in the landscape construction industry, Rick Wing brings unparalleled expertise and leadership to Design Outside as our Construction Operations Lead. Throughout his career, Rick has overseen the successful execution of some of New England’s most intricate and demanding landscape construction projects, including large-scale estates, coastal restorations, and technically challenging hardscape installations.
Known for his precision, calm under pressure, and deep understanding of site logistics and subcontractor coordination, Rick plays a pivotal role in transforming complex designs into built environments that exceed client expectations. His commitment to craftsmanship, safety, and operational excellence ensures that every project is delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards Rick's decades of field leadership make him a trusted guide for our team, clients and crews alike, and a cornerstone of our design-build process.
